5 cleaning habits for your ice maker
No complicated routine. Just five small habits.
An ice maker recirculates its water, so regular cleaning keeps the ice fresh and the machine running longer. These tips apply to most countertop ice makers; always follow your product manual.
- Use clean drinking water: filtered water means less scale and clearer ice.
- Drain weekly: open the drain plug, empty the reservoir and dry the basket and tank.
- Deep-clean monthly: run the cleaning mode (like the Clean button on the YH1600) or use a diluted food-safe cleaner as the manual describes.
- Keep it ventilated: leave space at the sides and back, and never block the vents.
- Dry before storing: drain, wipe dry and leave the lid open to air out before putting it away.
